Learn to Skate & Beginner Hockey Programs
Sundays 5:30-6:30 January 8 – March 24, 2012 Hobomock Arena Lake Street Pembroke
www.whkhawks.org
Learn to Skate $165/12 Weeks:
This is a fun program for children with little or no skating experience. The goal of this program is to have children gain confidence on the ice while developing their skating abilities. This is accomplished with the use of fun games and group skating drills.
The Learn-to-Skate children will be divided into two groups. The early beginner group is for brand-new skaters who have never been on the ice or who have very little on-ice experience. Initially they will be given the opportunity to move around on the ice with a mobile support system until they gain the confidence to go on their own. Once they can get around fairly well and remain upright, they will be mainstreamed into the next stage of learning.
This next stage incorporates games designed to give the children confidence while hopping, jumping and skating with some speed on the ice. They will begin to learn proper skating stride, how to stop, and skate backwards. Children will be moved from the early beginner group to the main group throughout each session as soon as the instructors feel they are ready to move on. Completing this Learn-to-Skate program should allow your child to graduate to a beginner hockey or figure skating program the following year. There is no age limit for this program, most skaters are between 3-8.
Required: An HEC-Approved helmet and face shield. NO EXCEPTIONS!
Beginner Hockey $195/12 Weeks:
Imagine your child's delight each week when he/she is introduced to the sport of ice hockey. This is a fun program that allows your child to begin skating drills using a stick and puck. This program has many of the same objectives as the Learn-to-Skate program, only applied in a hockey environment. This program is for children who have had some skating experience but may not be ready or old enough for the In-House Mite Hockey program.
There will also be 2 weeks devoted to playing a half-ice hockey game amongst themselves at the end of both sessions. Players must be fully outfitted in hockey equipment and will be supplied with a Beginner Hockey WHK Hawks jersey which must be worn each week for entrance onto the ice surface. This jersey will be returned to the WHK program upon completion of each session.
Required: All skaters must have an HEC approved helmet & face mask along w/full hockey equipment. NO EXCEPTIONS!
